Which Way Up Galaxy Games Review: A Cosmic Platformer Adventure

Let the Galaxy Games begin!

Which Way Up: Galaxy Games is a physics-based platformer from Turtle Flip Studio, available on Nintendo Switch and Steam as of March 27th.

In this vibrant and creative world, celestial beings known as the Celestials have come together to bring the dream of life into existence. But since creating life is a long and exhausting process, they devised the Galaxy Games—a cosmic competition to pass the time!

Visually, Which Way Up is stunning. Each level has bright engaging colors and charmingly designed Celestials. And the music will have you bobbing your head as you are flipping and floating through the universe. Players can choose between single-player and multiplayer modes (this review focuses on single-player).

In single-player mode, you start with three unlocked Celestials: Spark, Sprout, and Luna, each featuring their own unique mini-game. And the game mechanics? Spectacular! This isn’t your typical platformer—gravity-defying, physics-based moves add an exciting challenge without feeling impossible. Players must cleverly use objects within levels to bank their movements or shots, depending on the mini-game.

One of my favorite features is the practice/tutorial mode, which helps players master the mechanics before diving into the real challenges.

However, as much as I enjoy the game, it does have some drawbacks. The solo mode feels a bit lacking—this game is clearly built with multiplayer mode in mind. Progression can also be frustrating, as unlocking new levels requires collecting medals based on completion time. You can finish a level, but if you haven’t earned enough medals, you’re stuck until you replay and optimize your runs.

All in all, I give the game a 3 out 5. I’m definitely looking forward to updates to solo mode.
