February 19th is President’s Day and so what is more perfect topic for this edition of The Power of Three. In movies, there has been some absolutely inspiring, heart wrenching, memorable speeches. But three listed below are my absolutely favorites. I weigh all fictional presidental speech against these three.
- President Tom Beck/Deep Impact (1998) (played by Morgan Freeman)
Deep Impact is movie about a comet that is in direct line to hit Earth and cause an extinction level event. This is clip below is after a manned mission has essential failed. There is pure moment of hope and a wish of good will that infused his voice with so much kindness. He was not just the president then. He was person facing this looming threat as welll. And only wanted to best for all and know that it can only be for some. It is sad moment, but it is one of the greater moments of the movie.
There is second presidental speech that happens at the end of the movie. It was the rallying cry to those who survivced this harrowing journey. A call remember and rebuild. An absoluetly great message made even more powerful by Mr. Freeman’s delievery.
Deep Impact is currently streaming on AMC+
2.President Thomas Whitemore/ Independence Day (1996) (played by Bill Pullman)
“Today we celebrate our Indepdence Day!” has taken up space in mind since President Whitemore (Pullman) utter the icon line. In a speech meant to rally the troops to fight an alien invasion, Whitmore asked that everyone come together in an effort to save the human race. The speech is inspiring!
Independence Day is currently streaming on Starz
3. President Jackson Evan/The Contender (2000) (played by Jeff Bridges)
So it has been a while since I watched this movie, but the speech that President Evan gives is no less inspiring and poitant, especially for these times times.
The Contender is about Senator Laine Hanson who receives a nomination to be U.S. Vice President, but disinfomation and pettiness almost derails her confirmation.
This speech gives me chills to listen t0. It is a speech that should be echoed every day and remembered.
The Contender is currently streaming on Xumo
